Saturday, 15 March 2025 AGM

Dear members of our company

A month ago, we informed you about our Annual General Meeting in Basel. I can now send you the programme and registration details. You will find all the details in the e-mail below. In addition to the standard agenda items in accordance with our Articles of Association, we will also be deciding on an amendment to the Articles of Association regarding the expansion of the Association’s registered office and the appointment of an honorary member.

All Board members are looking forward to an interesting day and lively discussions.

The gateway to Switzerland: the Rhine ports of Basel

GM supporting programme on Saturday, 15 March 2025

As modest as the former fishing and farming village of Kleinhüningen was in the 19th century, the neighbourhood, which was incorporated into the city in 1908, is just as important for our country today. No other place handles more goods than the Rhine ports of Basel. The port of Kleinhüningen, which opened in the summer of 1922, is facing significant changes. With the construction of a new container terminal on the site of the former Baden marshalling yard and a third port basin, the port railway will also be relocated and the previous marshalling yard abandoned. But everything is still in good order. So it’s time to take a look around Basel’s city harbour.

The association ‘Verkehrsdrehscheibe Schweiz’ welcomes us with coffee and croissants in the port museum in Kleinhüningen, which will be modernised in 2021, before we are informed first-hand about the history, current events and projects of the Rhine port. Afterwards, we will visit the museum with its newly designed exhibition and then set off on foot for a guided tour of the harbour. We will be looked after all day by Rolf Schlebach, president of the supporting organisation and managing director of the museum. As a boatman’s son, he is a recognised expert on Basel’s Rhine shipping and is well known in Basel as a former drum maker and instructor.

Before coffee in the morning, participants taking photographs are recommended to visit the goods station opposite the harbour museum. On the sidings, you can often spot almost exotic-looking lone locomotives, which can be easily photographed from public ground.

A delicious lunch awaits the registered guests in the nearby, traditional neighbourhood restaurant ‘zum Schiff’ with its Art Deco elements and frescoes with stylised harbour motifs visible from afar. This is followed by the statutory part with the General Meeting.

After the meeting, we return to the nearby harbour and board smaller boats, so-called water taxis, which allow us to navigate the harbour basin and enjoy the unusual view of the ships and facilities from the water. We then stay on the boats and travel up the Rhine into the city centre to the Kleinbasel landing stage at the Middle Rhine Bridge. Our certainly very exciting excursion ends here and our guests make their way home individually.
