Friday, 31 October 2025 Lichtspiel / Kinemathek Bern Short film evening ‘Pfiff’

Bar open from 7 p.m., films start at 8 p.m.
Film evening at Lichtspiel / Kinemathek Bern, Sandrainstrasse 3/7, 3007 Bern

As part of its monthly ‘Archive Treasures’ programme, Lichtspiel is presenting a short film evening on the railway in collaboration with the Bern Tram Association. The description reveals that some excerpts from films on loan from SGEG will also be shown. These include private recordings from the late 1920s from the estate of Caspar Brunner, former chairman of Wallisellen railway station.

We’ll be letting off quite a bit of steam at this short film evening. Steam trains arrive in Western-style settings, we accompany a family in an amateur film from the late 1920s to Lucerne, Milan’s North Station and Como, we assist steam-powered snow blowers of the SBB in the 1960s, and we trace the development of the railway against the backdrop of the industrial revolutions. The protagonist of the evening: a signalman’s hut. In collaboration with the Bern Tram Association.

The event is not organised by us, but our colleagues at Lichtspiel and the Tram Association are delighted to welcome guests from our society.
Collection with suggested donation, no registration required.

Hall opens at 10:15 a.m.
Lecture 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This autumn, we are once again offering an exciting specialist lecture, this time on the transport of standard gauge vehicles on narrow-gauge railways. Werner Hardmeier’s expert lectures are well known and highly appreciated by many of us. We were once again able to secure the services of our long-standing board member for this year’s richly illustrated specialist presentation. The renowned railway historian will look back on the use of bogies and bogie trucks on Swiss narrow-gauge railways for transporting standard-gauge vehicles. Werni is looking forward to sharing his extensive memories and numerous colour photographs with guests. A detailed description of the content will follow.

Admission is free, but a reasonable voluntary contribution is requested.
No registration is required.

With the Schützenruh, we hope to have found another reliable, budget-friendly partner. The restaurant can be reached directly from the main station by tram 13 in the direction of Albisgütli and is located diagonally opposite the Strassenverkehrsamt stop.

We are not only trying out a new location, but also a different time slot with a Saturday morning. Perhaps you can combine your trip to the city of Zurich with a stress-free pre-Christmas shopping spree in the afternoon? The large shops in the city centre are open until 8 p.m. Very important: please plan your lunch in Zurich and take our host into consideration. It is a sign of appreciation for the friendly hosts and it will be important for future events to know how many lunches our presentation will generate.

Saturday, 7 March 2026 SGEG Annual General Meeting

Save the date for the AGM and a special supporting programme

After various date changes in recent years, the new composition of the board allows us to set the tried-and-tested first Saturday in March as the fixed date for our annual meeting once again. We are planning something completely new for this day and will inform you about it in due course. Would you like to reserve the date? It will definitely be worth it!
